Evaluation of degree project

 My degree project is a website about dumplings. The aim of this project is to introduce audiences to the many aspects of Chinese dumplings through my website. Although dumplings have been around for over 1800 years, fewer and fewer people are interested in learning about the cultural history and symbolism of dumplings. Through my website, I want to promote the dumpling culture that belongs to China. There are many excellent films and documentaries in the field of Chinese food culture, such as 《A bite of China》 and 《Eat Drink Man Woman》. These two productions have inspired me in terms of their influence on Chinese cuisine. Due to their influence, I want to contribute my share to the export of Chinese food culture. To this end, I want to make more people aware of the culture and history of Chinese dumplings through my website.

I consider my website work to be successful in terms of creativity and conceptual expression.The overall style of my website is closely related to the ancient culture of China. The colors of my website are dominated by the black and gold of the ancient Chinese dynasties, with a background of auspicious clouds and smoke patterns that symbolize good fortune in ancient China. The textures I have inlaid on the borders of the images are a reference to the traditional Chinese carvings of wooden doors. Including my logo, I have combined dumplings with Chinese national treasures to create a logo that not only looks lovely but also contains a unique culture that belongs to China. My website is full of Chinese culture and all the images are taken by me, including pictures of famous Chinese places and ancient texts. I have also edited videos on how to make and wrap dumplings so that viewers can learn how to wrap dumplings, how to make the meat filling and how to roll out the dough. I also filmed the dipping sauces that go with the dumplings to make them even more delicious when eaten together, giving viewers even more flavour. In terms of history and customs, the evolution of dumplings from the Han Dynasty to modern times, as well as the mythology of dumplings, will allow viewers to learn more about traditional Chinese culture. Through my website I hope to attract interest in Chinese culture and to increase viewers  knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture, preserving the culture that has been passed down through history.I also hope that through my website I can attract people from different parts of the world to share their food and history and culture.

However my site also has many shortcomings, due to my shallow knowledge of code my site has hit a major functional roadblock, I lack more functional options and it is difficult to reveal more features. Visually, my site had a very stiff feel to it and I did not make the images in the site more lifelike with the rest of the content, resulting in my site looking a little dull. I will learn from this project to make my future work even better!
